Tales From My Grandmother's Chest (Arabic Language
Product Description
This is a story celebrating Jordanian and Palestinian cultures, telling the story of Zein who finds items of traditional clothing, including a square of cross stitch embroidery from a Palestinian national dress, hidden in her grandmother's wooden chest which is inlaid with mother of pearl. Its a story within a story when the Grandmother explains the meaning, importance and origins of this clothing and craft. The story brings to life the rich cultural heritage of the region as manifested in the cross stitch embroidery, each thread of which reveals a history that ties the present to the past, linking the child with her cultural roots. The story is based on my thesis puppet production "Heirloom," written and performed in 1989 -USA
